Background of the Study
Political instability refers to the absence of stable and predictable governance, often marked by frequent changes in leadership, corruption, violence, and civil unrest. This instability can have significant negative effects on economic performance, as it disrupts the implementation of policies, discourages investment, and creates an environment of uncertainty. Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, has experienced periods of political instability, characterized by intra-party conflicts, ethnic tensions, and protests, all of which have disrupted governance and economic activities.
The economic growth of Jalingo LGA has been hindered by these political challenges. Businesses face uncertainty, agricultural productivity declines, and infrastructure development is stifled. Limitations include the difficulty in obtaining unbiased information due to the political sensitivity of the subject and the challenge of isolating political instability from other factors affecting economic growth.
